Stucco will last just as long as brick. Brick in our area cost a little more. (About 1/3 more.) Both brick and stucco can develop cracks. Hairline cracks in stucco is considered normal and just ads a little character. They can be controlled by using expansion joints, but personally I prefer the cracks.
